PIERCE COLLEGE JAZZ ENSEMBLE

SUITENESS

The albums by this fabulous big band are such fun. Unlike most musical directors, Norm Wallen does not politely tap on the window to come in, he kicks down the door, Wayne style....... Previously albums have not been subject to studio disciplines, they have been exciting, take no prisoners assaults on the senses. On a shorter lead this time, they are in the studio where there is more control, though you would not know it! This performance is every bit as exciting and technically inspired as any before.

Norman Wallen is always looking for ways to inspire his band. He has a habit of personalising familiar music to demonstrate the many ensemble and individual strengths of the PCJE. This new compact disc recognises the many suites that are written and rarely performed. This is a rich vein and likely to receive attention on other recordings.

Although this appears to be a student big band. These are the top professional in the area whoc use the Pierce College facilities.

As with previous issues this CD is brimful of superb solos, a lethal trumpet section and a first class rhythm section. Dynamic in the extreme.. I would never miss a concert were I close to where this band performs..
