There are so many e great big bands around that one wonders how broadcasters can continue to ignore them. I know there are exceptions but when you take an educated guess at how many fans are out there and apply to that the number of programs that play these recordings, you have to recognise that 'per capita' the exposure is pitiful. You have to rely on websites like this, word of mouth and stumbling on concerts to understand what is going on. This is particularly sad when you listen to this excellent CD, and think about how many will hear it on the air..
Trombonist Ryan Haines composes and arranges and has published, many excellent arrangements (check out Walrus Music via the Seabreeze link above). The CD should give band directors another source for worthwhile music. Whether they will achieve the high, swinging standard of this band will depend on them.
For those who do not know, it is acknowledged that some of the finest big bands in the USA are in the Services. Ryan Haynes was involved with several of the groups as performer and was in fact MD of the Falconaires.
The music on the CD was composed and arranged by the leader, all originals conceived not only to exercise the band but to entertain listeners, unlike some porjects, the fact that the music may be unfamiliar does not compromise the comfort of the audience as one feels at home as one would with the standards.
