RENO JAZZ ORCHESTRA 'LIVE'
BACK TO BLUES
The second CD by this excellent big band was recorded in May 2002 at the Holiday Inn, Reno Nevada.
The leader has changed and currently drummer Tony Savage is head of blame. The liner notes give an indication of the altruism and the dedication of these professional musicians, some of whom travel many difficult miles to rehearse. Tony Savage is proud of the fact that time is given helping young people to hone their talents and hopefully be part of that energy that will keep big bands going.
The program on this recording is an indication of what you will find if you are lucky enough to catch the band. Please do so if you can. The music is not dedicated to the one arranger, it is a selection from the libraries of some of the master arrangers including Bob Florence, Eric Richards, Willie Maiden, Gordon Goodwin, Bill Holman and Phil Wilson. This list of writers should give you an indication of the impact of the set.
The band swings impressively throughout. One thing that the band has is an abundance of outstanding soloists, at least 13 of the crew step up to the microphone. A featured arranger is Eric Richards, his work on a song I am not too familiar with SOUND OF LOVE is beautiful complimented by a fine alto solo by Frank Perry . His music is available via the University Of Northern Colorado Jazz Press. You will not regret and purchases you make.
