FULL SPECTRUM JAZZ (BIG BAND)
RAYNA'S DANCE FSJ CD02.2
In the years before CDs I was pleased to have recordings by the FULL FAITH AND CREDIT BIG BAND in my collection. I was somewhat disappointed when it became apparent that the band, or at least the name, disappeared. The band eventually reappeared or a new band inspired by the success of the the original band appeared and the exceptional quality was still there . Hope I am not wrong here!
The new album is dedicated to a sweet looking little moppet, the daughter of one of the M.Ds Roger Levinson, and an original arrangement bears her name.
This is an incredible big band. Really a model to students who have to be shown that you can acknowledge all the disciplines of a jazz ensemble and still be sharp, relaxed and exciting. One gets a 'family' feeling about the ensemble, bunch of mates if you will . The palpable bonhomie of the combatants contributes to my being relaxed and enjoying the fun.
Having said that this program is taken seriously. Wonderful soloists and terrific arrangements. 4 tracks of the 11 are vocals performed by Duane Lawrence who has just the right timbre of voice for this situation, a rich mellifluous baritone. Helped along quite nicely by the arrangements of Sammy Nestico, Quincy Jones, and the late lamented Frank Mantooth. Watch out for one of the best interpretations of Curnow's FIRST CIRCLE that I have heard - what a band!
Beautifully recorded in the studio in 2001, this album will excite and enchant with the great solos and inspired programming. This really is one for your collection.
I have stock in the UK.
