The first thing you have to do when you listen to this CD is to put all thoughts of the original interpretations out of your mind. If you do not do that you will unfairly compare this excellent recording with classic performances by some of the planet's greatest soloists. The original recordings had an unstoppable urgency that swept the listener along. Coupled with that you were seduced by Mulligan and his cohorts who were so secure with their talents, you relaxed knowing however difficult the journey, they would be triumphant. They had a sureness and a lightness of touch I would not expect to be easily recreated
This is the task accepted on this the second CD by this Northern Californian group. The arrangements are by or inspired by Holman, Paich , Mulligan Pell etc., occasionally recreated by baritone Geoff Roach. I would expect anyone hearing this CD to be heartened that such a group exists and where possible they should be seeking out concerts.
There is no doubt that an already inspiring project is going to ensure even better things in the future.
I recommend that you seek out this CD via the web site linked to above.
