Many of you will be aware of two LPs NIGHT FLIGHT and DARK ORCHID that were reissued in part on a splendid compact disk NIGHT FLIGHT Seabreeze CD SB 103. This is a relatively new CD which may have escaped your notice!
There are eleven tracks, seven of which are, as far as I can see unreleased, the four are off DARK ORCHID. The additional tracks are well worth the duplication. I am fairly certain that the cuts are repeats, but have not matched the solos etc.
The new music is rather wonderful. Sammy has a unique knack of writing for bands of all levels and still making making even the 'beginner arrangements' interesting, in fact often they can be opened up for extra solos and with the addition of experienced players, good lead players, can pass for more advanced material. In this case the material is advanced of course and further embellished with the addition of top session players including Louie Bellson, Pete Christleib, Bud Shank, Conte Candoli, Andy Martin, Grover Mitchell, Bob Cooper and more. The arrangements include: Fascinating Rhythm: Wonderful World, Blues Machine and more. Knowing it is Nestico you can expect, and you will not be disappointed, that the music is straight ahead and swinging all the way.
