No prisoners were taken when Ernie Krivda took his team in an Ohio recording studio in January 2003. As a tenor player and leader, E.K. could hardly be called shy and retiring. A master of the muscular tenor sax mode of aural assault, he also surprises when he descends into ballad mode, a sort of good cop bad cop style of playing! None of this excitement should deflect you from appreciating the technical excellence of the band.
The band is there to entertain not educate; a good time is promised, using a selection of impressive jazz/swing arrangements from the pens of Med Florey, Fletcher Henderson, Strayhorn, Holman, Vaughn Weister (who leads his own exciting big band in the area). I hope that this band is well supported because I know if I were in the area I would not deny myself the fun of experiencing a concert. The opportunity of seeing and hearing Vaughn Weister's (trombone), Dick Ingersoll's Baritone and any of the lead and split lead trumpets.
A bonus is the delicious Erin Kufel, just out of High School, Erin displays a seductive ballad style that allows the band to have a breather and the audience to breath a little heavier. A excellent counterbalance to the energy of this band in full flight.
You may be able to get copies of this exciting CD via the links above, and from me in the UK early to middle March 2006.
