At last Pete Christleib has put this fabulous album onto CD. A magnificent performer anyhow , I doubt he has ever been involved in anything that showcased his talent better.
On theis occasion he is accompanied by Mike Melvoin on piano, Jim Hughart on bass and the brilliant late Nick Ceroli on drums.
This is one swinging set. An undercurrent of humour and joy are fundemental to this feel good performance.
As well as Pete Christleib's undoubted superiority over most tenor players anywhere, I would suggest that drummers note the way Nick Ceroli works, his time is superb, his support is peerless and his way with the cymbals is breathtaking and an object lesson to others. There is so much music in the cymbals that is never exposed , his touch; his use of appropriate dynamics and the sheer musical brilliance of his playing is fantastic. What a loss to the jazz world.
Those stuck in a big band groove could do a lot worse that explore this gem, 18 men never swung harder.
It is available only from CD Baby, see my 'BUY' link above. Maybe at others soon I do not know. CD Baby is a great distributor and should be explored while you visit.
